Glory Boys | Track 3 | AWOL Song Stories
by on April 30, 2018 in AWOL Blog

It started out with two dudes fascinated by the allure of John Taylor’s bass playing and the idea of recreating a song from the RIO sound template… Kieran Kelly soon found out that we had a duo bromance for the music of duran duran.. the track started out with a keyboard sequence that Kieran came up with and then ferocious bass playing of Jonathan Maron…. what followed was yours truly crafting a lyric about my teenage years growing up in the 80’s….. The song is literally a testament to the new wave music of that time period and how it provided a soundtrack to my life, as well as confidence to start out on my own musical journey…. The poster of duran duran from the first album and also a poster of Adam and the Ants were hung on my walls with care…. it provided that sanctuary of hope that I could achieve something just as far out and fashionable in far flung Grand Rapids Michigan…..
I sent my melodic and lyrical ideas to KK and we ended up overdubbing the rest of the song at my studio in Franklin Tn. Armed only with a Shure SM7B and the idea that this song could be our own personal ‘RIO’…. Glory Boys was born. KM
