Irish Blood Up | Track 10 | AWOL Song Stories
by on May 18, 2018 in AWOL Blog

The song started with a rough track demo being sent to me from Kieran featuring drum program & a keyboard melody. I put down lyrics and melody onto iTalk recorder and sent them back to KK in nyc. He then sent me a more fleshed out version of the tune which featured Jonathan Maron on bass, in much the same vein as ‘Glory Boys.’ The guitar player was someone KK hired which i need to get the name of…. inspired playing, reminds me of Big Country or early U2. We tracked the final vocals at my studio in Franklin and had a tough time as it was in the ‘meat’ of my range…. not giving me room for much options above and below the main melody for improvisation. We pushed through and eventually got a finished performance we agreed on. Literally, it was the only song I didn’t know if it would make the final cut. Kieran came to the table with his engineer friend Sam in NYC, who eventually mixed it. Lyrically, it is a classic example of my style of songwriting….. quirky but relatable. I’m proud I finally wrote an anthem about my temper. ))
